Shirley A. Germain

Shirley A. Germain, 67, of Fargo, ND, died Sunday, August 23, 2015, in Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo, ND.

Shirley Ann Skrien was born on August 9, 1948, in Hawley, MN, to Oscar and Evelyn Jorgenson Skrien. She grew up in Ulen, MN, where she graduated from Ulen High School in 1966. Shirley then attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND, and moved to Jamestown, ND. In 1978, Shirley married William Germain; they later divorced. Shirley worked in admissions at the North Dakota State Hospital for 30 years, until her retirement. She then worked at Alpha Opportunities in Jamestown, helping disabled adults. In 2012, Shirley moved to Fargo, ND, to take care of her mother, Evelyn, until Evelyn moved into Rosewood on Broadway. In June 2015, Shirley was diagnosed with cancer and also moved into Rosewood on Broadway.

Shirley was a past president and active member of the North Dakota Women of Today. She was also a member of the Prairie Pyrotechnics and the Pyrotechnic Guild International where she was involved in many firework shows, including the Ulen Centennial Celebration. Shirley also enjoyed gardening and traveling. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and her adopted dog, Dottie.

Shirley is survived by her mother, Evelyn Skrien, Fargo, ND; two brothers, James Liesel Skrien, Aurora, CO, and Orlyn Sandy Skrien, Medford, OR; two sisters, Eileen Vince Fibelstad, Lewiston, ID, and Sharon Greg Marquart, Fargo, ND; and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Oscar Skrien.

Visitation: Sunday, August 30, 2015, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

Funeral: Monday, August 31, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ulen, MN.

Interment: Ulen West Cemetery, Ulen, MN.
