Shirley Ann Brakke

Shirley Ann Brakke, 82, Comstock, MN, died on Thursday, March 09, 2017, in Elim Care Center, Fargo, ND.
Shirley Ann Zentgraf was born on January 12, 1935 at Larimore, ND, to Robert and Christine Deede Zentgraf. She graduated from Moorhead High School in 1953.
Shirley married Gordon O. Brakke on May 22, 1954 in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN. They were the first couple married in the church. During their 59 years of marriage, they raised five children and had six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. They farmed near Comstock, MN, and were members of the Comstock Lutheran Church.
In retirement, they split their time between Florida and the Fargo-Moorhead community.
Gordon died on June 3, 2013.
Shirley was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed being at the lake and fishing, and she liked spending time in Florida. She also loved camping, sewing, crafts, golf and reading.
Shirley’s family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Elim Care Center for the wonderful care they provided to her.
She is survived by her children, Keith Bev Brakke, Moorhead, Kristin Kevin Bakko, Ottertail, MN, Kim Don Hovden, Fargo, ND, and Robert Brakke, Rustad, MN; six grandchildren Jason Brakke, Kayla Michael Posch, Lindsay Adam Hollman, Ryan Emily Bakko, Kelsey Chris Bingham, and Brent Hovden; four great-grandchildren, William Posch, Ian and Cohen Hollman, and Zachary Bakko.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon; daughter Kari Mclean; sister Lucille, and brother-in-law Arthur Brown.
Visitation: Tuesday, March 14, 2017, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN and one hour before the funeral in the church.
Funeral: Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at 11:00 A.M. in Comstock Lutheran Church.
Interment: Comstock Lutheran Cemetery, Comstock, MN.
