Shirley Mae Sams

Shirley Mae Sams, 85, of Glyndon, MN, passed away Sunday, January 15th 2017, in her apartment in Moorhead, MN, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Shirley was born July 11, 1931, in Courtenay, ND to Ira and Thelma Syverson Mitchell Gutknecht.
Shirley Mitchell and Jay Sams were married in 1948 and moved to Fargo, ND. In 1954 they moved to Glyndon, MN, where they owned Glyndon Garage for 28 years. Shirley also cleaned several doctor homes in the Fargo / Moorhead area for 31 years.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Marilynn Rick Wachter of Maple Grove, MN; daughter-in-law Vanessa Sams of Fargo, ND; brother Marvin Galye Gutknecht of Casselton, ND, and four grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by husband Jay, two sons, Jack and Rolly Sams, one brother Ernest Mitchell, and sister Bernice Gutknecht.
Shirley’s family would like to extend their thanks for her care provided by Hospice of the Red River Valley.
