Shirley O. Nelson

Shirley Ann Olive Nelson was born July 14, 1934 to Fred & Tillie Hoffman on the family farm home near Durbin, ND. She died August 18, 2010 at her son's home in Woodbury, MN.Shirley attended rural grade school in Durbin, ND and later attended school in Casselton graduating from high school in 1951. After graduating from high school she attended Moorhead State Teachers College and graduated with an elementary teaching certificate and received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education in 1972. Shirley taught school in Lake Park until she married Orris C. Nelson on January 27, 1957 and was a substitute teacher for a number of years in the Moorhead and Dilworth school systems. Shirley and Orris lived in Dilworth, MN from 1958 to 1984 where three of their four children graduated from Dilworth High School. After Orris retired from American Crystal Sugar Company in 1984, Shirley and Orris moved to their lake home on Leaf Lake near Lake Park, MN where their youngest son graduated from Audubon High School in 1987. Shirley continued to live at her lake home after her husband died in 1992 and enjoyed doing sewing, quilting and upholstery work for friends and family. Shirley is survived by her four children; Craig Anita Nelson of Baldwin, ND, Pamela Nelson of Moorhead, MN, Scott Nelson and Mark Nelson of Woodbury, MN; two grandchildren; Chris and Nick Nelson of Baldwin, ND; two sisters; Norma Holte of Moorhead, MN and Beatrice Roger Vining of West Fargo, ND; one aunt, Marian Alfred Bachmann of Frazee, MN; one brother-in-law, Clayton Nelson, Woodinville, WA.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother; Douglas Hoffman; brothers-in-law Kermit Holte and Henry Hovelson; sisters-in-law Evelyn Hoffman, Mildred Hovelson, and Miranda Nelson.
