Sigurd “Sig” Morton Severinson, age 93, of Hawley, MN, died Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at Viking Manor, Ulen, MN, under the care of the Hospice of the Red River Valley and his loving family.
Sig was born September 7, 1929, in Eglon Township, rural Hawley, MN, to Torstein and Olga (Mikkelson) Severinson. He grew up and attended country schools. On June 11, 1955, Sig married Doris Williamson in Lancaster, MN. Following their marriage, they settled in Eglon Township in rural Hawley. Together they raised two children on their dairy and small grains farm. Sig and Doris both moved to the Viking Manor, Ulen, in October 2019.
Sig was baptized, confirmed, and was the oldest member of Solem Lutheran Church where he served as a church council member. He also served as a member of the board of Directors of the Wild Rice Electric Co-op Inc., Mahnomen, MN. Sig enjoyed his years farming, caring for animals, listening to music, and especially time spent with his family.
He is survived by one son, Tim Severinson of Hawley, MN; one daughter, Margaret (Rick) Godke of Jacksonville, FL; one granddaughter, Meganne Michele Godke, Altamonte Springs, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
Sig was preceded in death by his parents, Torstein and Olga; wife, Doris; and one sister, Orpha (John) Marvig.
Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 A.M., Monday, October 3, 2022, at Solem Lutheran Church, Rural Hawley, MN. Burial will be at Solem Lutheran Cemetery following the service.
In lieu of thank you notes, the family will make a donation to the Viking Manor, where he enjoyed his last years of life receiving their loving care.
