Spencer G. Fjeld

Spencer G. Fjeld, 90, of Hawley, MN, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2012, in Sanford Health, Fargo, ND. Spencer was born February 23, 1922, to Sever and Helga Hoglund Fjeld in Kathryn, ND. He grew up on the family farm near Kathryn and attended country school. He then continued his education and received his teaching certificate by the age of 19. Spencer taught in Oriska and Fort Ransom, ND, before teaching in Hawley, MN. He retired in 1987 after 33 years of teaching. Spencer was also a proud veteran who served during WWII. On December 9, 1960, he married Carol Halvorson in Moorhead, MN. Together they made their home in Hawley and raised a family. They had seven children in nine years. Spencer is survived by his wife, Carol; son, Terry Fjeld of Colorado Springs, CO; daughters, Linnea Bromenschenkel of Florida, Emily Odegaard of Lake Park, MN, Naomi Mike Polomny of Moorhead, MN, Heidi Dave Carson of St. Paul, MN; 23 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by daughters, Kristine 1966 and Mary 1990; his parents, Sever and Helga; and siblings, Cora, Hazel, Myrtle, Evy, Grace and an infant brother.
