Stephen A. ’Steve’ Savary

May 8, 1951 — August 20, 2012

Stephen Allan Savary, age 61 of Moorhead, Minnesota died August 20, 2012. Born May 8, 1951, in Sioux City, Iowa, Steve was proud to be the son of Sylvester and Louise Bell Savary. He adored his much older brother Gary, and was always thrilled to tag along on Gary's spontaneous adventures. Their times as a family at their cabin by Itasca State Park were treasured for many years. Steve's great co-conspirator in his youth was his friend, Ron Dykstra. These two were instigators of fun and fraternity only life long friends could accomplish. After graduation in 1969 from Sioux City Central High School, others joined in their zest for education and fun at South Dakota State University in Vermillion. Steve, in his continuous pursuit of knowledge, went on to obtain master's degrees in government and economic planning.Bright and multi-talented, Steve had passion for many types of careers including his roles as a city planner, real estate developer, commercial realtor, and carpenter. His unofficial careers were that of storyteller. talk radio supporter and Boston Celtics fan. His greatest passion and joy, however, was being a father to Ashley and Dylan. Though time spent with them was not nearly as much as he wanted, he shone when he spoke of his children. The last few years of his life he shared his companionship and love with Patricia Dell of Moorhead. Her cats and nieces and nephews became his own. Whether they were shopping, camping or just sitting on the deck playing trivial pursuit, Steve shared his laughter and opinions freely with her and neighbors. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Gary, and his favorite cats, Erin and Murphy. He is survived by his two children, Ashley of Colorado Springs and Dylan, and his friend, Paige, of Moorhead. He leaves his brother Ernest of Sioux City, Iowa and the many fraternity brothers he gathered in college. Also left to mourn his loss are friends Ron and Jeanne Dykstra of Shoreview, Minnesota, and at home, his soul mate Pat, their kittens, Abby and Zoey, and the Dell family.A celebration of Steve's life will be held on the shores of Lake Superior in the near future. Memorials in his honor can be made to HERO, Inc of Fargo, North Dakota, an organization that shared their resources and value of recycling with Steve. herofargo.org
