Steven J. Taves, 69, of Glyndon, MN, passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2012, at home surrounded by his family and Pastor Jeni. Steven was born June 6, 1943, in Fargo, ND, to James and Marjorie Schultz Taves. At the age of five the family moved to Detroit Lakes, MN, where he grew up, attended and graduated from high school. After high school, he started working for his uncle at Schultz and Lindsay Construction. On September 16, 1967, he married Shirley Ostlie in Perham, MN. Together they lived in Dilworth for a short time before settling in Glyndon. In 1970, Steven and Shirley started their Turkey Farm and continued to do so until retiring in 2010.Steven enjoyed the outdoors and spending time at the lake. He also enjoyed sports, especially softball, golf, bowling and football. In fact, he still holds records for Laker Football in Detroit Lakes. He also had a passion for classic cars and took pride in the cars he had restored. Steven loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren; they were his pride and joy. He was always there to support his children and grandchildren in their lives and their activities. He will be dearly missed.Steven is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Amy Justin Koenig of Hawley; sons, James Robbin Taves of Glyndon, Justin Taves of Alexandria; grandchildren, Austin and McKenzie Koenig, Steven, Dylan and Ashley Taves; brother, David Sandy Taves of Detroit Lakes; sisters, Sonja Taves and Sandra Taves, both of Detroit Lakes; sister-in-law, Betsy Taves of Detroit Lakes; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Marjorie; and brother, Terry.The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Nammour, the staff at Essentia Health, and Hospice of the Red River Valley for their exceptional care.
