Steven P. Mounce, 60, of Hawley, MN, passed away in his home on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 surrounded by family.
Steven Paul Mounce was born on December 6, 1959, in Eau Claire, WI, to Virgil and Marlene (Olbert) Mounce. The family later moved to Dilworth, MN, where Steve attended school and was confirmed at Dilworth Lutheran Church. During school Steve enjoyed playing football, wrestling, and especially baseball.
At the age of 15, Steve started a 41-year career with Nash Finch, first working at Piggly Wiggly and then becoming a produce manager and merchandiser at various Sunmarts and in the warehouse. In the fall of 2017, Steve went to work at Valley Market (Hugo’s) based in Grand Forks and looked forward to growing with their company. He took pride in his work and enjoyed working very much.
Steve married the love of his life, Dianne, on August 17, 1991, and instantly became stepfather to three children. Steve and Dianne were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Ashley, the following year. Ashley was Steve’s “Pookie” and Steve was “Padj” to all four kids. Steve loved his family unconditionally and was always the first person to help and the last to leave. He enjoyed taking in Vikings and Twins games, spending time at Howard Lake on the pontoon and around the bonfire where he was known to fall asleep (but never spilled his beer), and watching his grandchildren grow. His family meant everything to him and he meant the world to his family.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Dianne; four children, Melissa (Bruce) Boedigheimer, Jess (Kris) Spieker Ferden, Adam (Danielle) Spieker, and Ashley (Chris) Schreiber; mother, Marlene Mounce; brother, Dave (Corrie) Mounce, and sister, Kim Mounce; grandchildren, Ryan (Angel Kellar), Mason, Reece, Easton, Annikah, Liam, Arabella, Aurora, Elin, Piper, Kaisen, Kye, and Quill, and a great-grandchild, Andriana. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who were so important to him.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Virgil, father and mother in law, Victor and Vera Larson, brother in law, Mark, and sisters in law, LaVaye and Jean. Steve’s family would like to thank the nurses and CNAs from Hospice of the Red River Valley for the wonderful care they showed to Steve and our family throughout Steve’s illness. You are truly angels on Earth.
