Susie Bekkerus

Susan Jane Bekkerus has joined the saints after an amazing life, Friday, October 21st, 2016.
Susan Jane Barlow was born to William and Nancy Lauder Barlow on March 21st, 1958. She lived in North Moorhead as a child and attended Lincoln Elementary, North Junior High and Moorhead High School. Susie met Bruce Bekkerus in 1974 and they were married in 1980. They lived in South Moorhead. Susie worked at the Fargo Clinic and then began her career as a stay-at-home mom. For those years she volunteered at both schools and church. She thoroughly enjoyed raising her children, Robert and Leah. In 1998 she started a new career at Lakes Country Service Cooperative and later Moorhead Public Schools as Paraprofessional in the Early Intervention Services. She loved all of the little people that she came in contact in her job.
Susie has the best core group of friends one could ever have. She loved being involved in her children and grandchildren’s lives. This summer, Abby and Ava had a special time with Susie each week they called themselves the Summer Cooking Girls. She would also sneak up to East Grand Forks any time she could to play with Will. Susie loved to ride her bike and spend time with childhood friends. She also liked to watch sports, especially Spud and Force Hockey, and her annual trip to the Minnesota State Boys Hockey Tournament. Susie found a new love for camping with friends over the past couple of years. She was also known for her legendary peanut butter bars and chocolate chip cookies.
Susie is survived by her husband Bruce, children Robert Jennifer of West Fargo, daughter Leah Jaeche Grant of East Grand Forks. She also has 4 grandchildren: Nick, Ava, Abby and Will. She is also survived by her siblings: Brad Debbie Barlow, Barb Paul Koplitz and Doug Jodi Barlow. She was preceded in death by her father William Barlow and mother Nancy Barlow.
Arrangements will be handled by Wright Funeral home. A “Memorial Gathering” will be held Friday, October 28 from 5-7PM with a prayer service at 7PM. A “Celebration of Life” service will be held on Saturday, October 29 at 11AM. Both gatherings will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church of Moorhead, Minnesota.
Susie was a cancer survivor. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that gifts and memorials be directed to American Cancer Society-Relay for Life.
