Sylvester Thomas Shingobe, 71, of St. Catherine's Living Center Wahpeton, ND, died on Tuesday, October 30, 2007, at St. Frances Healthcare Campus, Breckenridge, MN. Sylvester Thomas Shingobe was born on October 25, 1936 in Mahnomen County, near Mahnomen, MN, the son of Thomas J. and Mary Hutchinson Shingobe. He grew up in Mahnomen County where he attended country school and the Flandreau Indian Vocational High School, Flandreau, SD.After school he entered and served in the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge. He married Myra Carlson on May 28, 1966 in Lafayette, MN. After their marriage the couple made their home in Minneapolis, MN, where Sylvester worked for an industrial dry cleaner. He moved to Winthrop, MN where he worked for a lumber mill. In 1973 the family was involved in a serious automobile accident where Sylvester sustained permanent disabling injuries. In 1974 they moved to Lafayette, MN, he later moved to Minneapolis, MN in 1982 and to Fargo, ND in 1984. For the past 10 years he has been a resident of St. Catherine's Living Center in Wahpeton, ND. Sylvester is survived by 2 daughters, Carmen Margarito Hernandez of Lee's Summit, MI, Lana Richard Burdette of McDonough, GA; 6 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; his former wife, Myra Shingobe, Lafayette, MN. Also surviving are nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Sylvester is preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers; Wallace, Phillip, Ernest and James Shingobe and 3 sisters, Gladys Ray, Rose Barstow and Teresa Pendegayosh.
