Sylvia E. Bjornson

Sylvia E. Bjornson, 86, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2020 in Eventide Senior Living, Moorhead, MN.

Sylvia Eileen Bjornson was born January 18, 1934 to Alvin and Selma (Alm) Bjornson near Hawley, MN. She attended rural school and later earned her GED from Hawley High School. She was baptized, confirmed and was a lifelong member of Hegland Lutheran Church in rural Hawley.

Sylvia was raised on the farm and started sewing for others at an early age. She was an accomplished seamstress and had many satisfied customers in the area. She loved music and was involved in music most of her life.

Sylvia moved into Hawley in 1977 and worked for a time in the Hawley school system. She then worked as a cook and baker at CJ’s Highway Café in Hawley where she became known for her delicious pies, pastries and later on donuts. She worked as a cook at the Highway Host in Glyndon, MN, for a number of years and at the Hawley Manor until retiring in 2006.

Sylvia was an organist at Grong Free Lutheran Church, in Rollag, MN, for 34 years and a member of Ruth Circle, WELCA of Hegland Church, Royal Neighbors and Homemakers. She loved to go on bus trips where she went to many interesting places. Her family meant a lot to her, especially her sisters, niece, nephew, great-nieces, and great-great-nieces. She also enjoyed her family reunions and get togethers with cousins. Sylvia loved to help people and was a friend to all who knew her.

She is survived by niece, Lori Irwin; nephew, Gary Forsberg; great-nieces, Gail (Matt) Grieve and Lisa (Bryce) Johnson; great-great-nieces, Megan and Morgan Grieve and Myla Johnson and brother-in-law, Edward Forsberg.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Corrine Forsberg and Lenora Bjornson as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 from 1:00-2:00 PM followed by a funeral service at 2:00 at Hegland Lutheran Church, Hawley, MN.

Burial will be in Hegland Lutheran Cemetery.
