Sylvia S. Poehls

Sylvia S. Poehls, 81, Moorhead, MN, died on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, in Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.
Sylvia Meyer was born on January 31, 1932, in Woods, SD, to Louie and Selma Boock Meyer. She grew up and attended school in Sabin and Comstock, MN, graduating from High School at Comstock. She married Thomas Walker in 1950. Sylvia worked at a number of jobs including baby-sitting, chores and housework, waitressing at the Comstock Hotel in Moorhead, Walgreens in Breckenridge, MN, candling eggs, Tempo and Alco department stores in Moorhead and also managing a Tempo-Rasco store in Borger, TX, and working as a Forum carrier. She spent eighteen years working in local hospitals including St. Ansgar’s St. John’s, and Dakota Heartland.
In 1999, Sylvia retired and married Harlan Poehls, her husband and best friend.
In retirement she volunteered for Dakota Heartland and Sanford Hospitals. She loved her children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. She liked growing things, sewing, needlework and softball. She was involved in her church, making baptism towels for those baptized at Christ the King. She also enjoyed camping with her husband.
Sylvia is survived by her husband, Harlan Poehls; three children, Duane Terri Walker, Steven Karey Walker, and Belinda Tim Skauge; nine grandchildren Sarah and Carson Walker, Karissa, Chelshey and Alan Walker, Shanna Somer, Katrina Chavis, Cassie and Emily Skauge; five great-grandchildren; four step-children, Tim Gen Poehls, Joni Tim Bieber, Rick Dessire Peohls, Terry Kelly Poehls, and their children Audra Garrett Maurer, Chloe Benson, Ashley and Kendra Bieber, Dylan and Brandi Poehls, Mara and Avery Poehls; Three sisters, Margaret Blilie, Ardys Paul Randall, Karen Gene Prim; brother, Walter Paula Ernst; sister-in-law Ione Meyer; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1941, her mother in 1999, and her brother David Meyer on September 28, 2012.
Memorials may be given to The Lutheran Church of Christ the King.
Memorial gathering: Sunday, December 8, 2013, from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
Memorial Service: Monday, December 9, 2013, at 2:00 P.M., in the Lutheran Church of Christ the King.
Final Resting Place: The Columbarium at Elmwood Cemetery, Sabin, MN.
