Terry A. Ryding

August 5, 1954 — October 27, 2015

In the arms of his only sister – his caregiver – Terry died at home, the way he wanted, early in the morning on Tuesday, October 27, 2015.

Terry Allan Ryding was born August 5, 1954, to Armond K. and Charlotte P. Mickelson Ryding, at St. Ansgar Hospital in Moorhead, MN. He grew up in North Moorhead with 5 brothers and one sister. He graduated in 1972 from MHS.
As a young man he was a Boy Scout and played sports. He wrestled, as well as played football and baseball. There was always a pick-up game of some sort in the street, in front of his home, nearly every night. As an adult he enjoyed bowling and was on two leagues for many years.
Just about anything outdoors kept him busy. He loved to hunt and fish with his buddies, as well as canoeing and camping. Often, the best of these times were sitting around a campfire with them in the evenings.

Work always got in the way of Terry’s hobbies. Some of the places he had worked included Wood and Con, K inc. and Border States Electric. Before he retired because of disability, he worked for Bert’s Truck Equipment of Moorhead. Here he managed inventory and kept the warehouses in tip-top shape. Pity the one who moved something!
After a cancer diagnosis 10 years ago, Terry became disabled. The lingering effects of the radiation and chemotherapy caused many challenges and strengthened his belief that each day was a gift from God.

His interests now were things around home, as he no longer drove. Living with his sister, he fed the birds – as well as squirrels and bunnies – and loved container gardening. One summer they had over one hundred pots going of flowers or veggies. Home canning and preserving were also passions. He would “help” in the kitchen as much as possible. Using his seal-a-meal and dehydrator were his responsibility, while Robbi did the canning. He loved to give away the fruits of their labor, and then going to garage sales in search of jars for the next season, as well as other treasures. The weekend before his death, he was out again in search of those treasures. Terry also spent many, many hours online. He sent for every free offer out there.

Terry – the middle child – was survived by his six siblings: Michael Idona, Mesa, AZ; Joel Elaine-deceased, Moorhead; Paul Sandra Houston, TX; his sister Robbi, Fargo; Todd, Houston, TX; and Darin Cynthia, Goffstown, NH; 6 nieces and 6 nephews, 10 great-nieces and 14 great-nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Terry was grateful for them all, and kept up on Facebook when he could.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law Elaine.

Terry’s request was no funeral. His memorial service will be at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN, with day and time yet to be determined.
