Thelma Strand Wegner, 88, died of cancer under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley on July 13, 2004. She was born November 8, 1915 near Thief River Falls, MN. At age four she moved with her family to a farm near Ada where she grew up and attended school. After graduation from high school she earned a Teacher's Certificate and taught several years in Norman County schools.In 1940 she moved to St. Paul where she attended Business College. She was a State of Minnesota employee in St. Paul and Albert Lea for five years and later at Moorhead State from 1950 to 1958.On June 4, 1944 she was married to George Holmberg and his work took them from St. Paul to Wadena, and to Owatonna, where he died in November, 1948.On June 2, 1958 she married Marlowe Wegner in Moorhead. He died in January, 1994.She is survived by three daughters; Rosemary Wegner, Thief River Falls, MN, Georgia Wegner, Minneapolis, MN, and Virginia Michael Armstrong, Idaho Falls, ID; one daughter in law, Stephanie, Fargo, ND; two sisters, Ansof Parks Gray, Silver Spring, MD, and Edna Strand, Eagan, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband Marlowe, daughter Susan, and son Christopher; four brothers, and one sister.
