Theodore J. ’Ted’ Butenhoff

Ted Butenhoff, 71, Moorhead, MN, died peacefully, surrounded by loving family and friends, on Friday, January 21, 2011, at Sanford Health Palliative Care, Fargo, ND.Theodore J. Butenhoff was born on March 2, 1939, in Moorhead, MN, to Theodore and Ethel Poehls Butenhoff. He grew up and attended school in Sabin and Moorhead, MN. He served in the U.S. Army and then attended Moorhead State University, graduating with a B.S. in Biology. Ted was married in 1962 and later divorced. He worked at Midwest Motor Express in Fargo, ND, and Transport, Inc. in Moorhead, MN, as a truck driver. He served as the President of the Teamster's Local 116 for three years and then returned to driving with Janesville Auto Transport, where he retired from. He was a very active member of Elim Lutheran Church in Fargo, where he served in many capacities including President of the church council. Ted loved to garden, work on home improvement projects, tinker in the garage and he loved to go dancing. He is survived by one son, Ted Butenhoff, Fargo, ND; two daughters, Carrie Misty Stitt Butenhoff, Guerneville, CA, and Stacy Bob Salmi, Minnetonka, MN; two grandchildren, Owen and Aila Salmi, Minnetonka; his special friend, January Pray, Moorhead, and her children; Nathan Teddi-Ann Pray, Thief River Falls, MN, Katie Jon Rudnick, Moorhead, and her granddaughter Tegan Pray; a brother, Roy Butenhoff, Sabin, MN; two sisters, Viviette Vernie Haugtvedt, Hawley, MN, and Lila Carroll Stubstad, Pelican Rapids, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and a sister.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be given to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
