Thomas Nels Kloster

Thomas Kloster passed away peacefully at Eventide Nursing Home in Moorhead, MN on December 9, 2019 at the age of 87. A funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead, MN on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 1pm with Pastor Simon Fensom officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral.

Tom was born to Thomas A. Kloster & Florence Kloster Rostad on July 4, 1932 in Moorhead, MN. He was baptized, confirmed, and married at Trinity Lutheran Church. He graduated from Moorhead High School in 1950 and from Concordia College in 1954. He served in the Army for 2 years, mostly stationed in Alaska. Following his military service, he worked for D.C. Heath selling textbooks in Minnesota and North Dakota.

Tom started his real estate career by selling homes for Fargo Investment. He then went on to be co-owner of Island Park Real Estate and sold out to start Metro Realtors. Tom is well known in the Fargo-Moorhead area for being a respected, reliable and trustworthy realtor.

In 1961 Tom married Phyllis Ristuben and went on to have two boys, Dr. Thomas O. Kloster (Monique Hall) of Hudson, WI and Dr. John N. Kloster (Deneen Blackley) of Breezy Point, MN. Tom and Phyllis have five grandchildren: Caroline Kloster, Chase Kloster, Eric Kloster, Dr. Anna Hanson (Dr. Adrian Hanson), and Jack Kloster.

Tom’s passion was walleye fishing, whether it was Lake of the Woods ice fishing on the shortest day of the year or open water fishing on the longest day of the year. Many fond memories were made on the Canadian fishing trips he took with family and friends. Tom also loved reading, history and telling stories as well as honestly liking lutefisk. He was an active member of Lions Club and had served as a council member at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Tom is survived by wife Phyllis, his eldest son, Tom Kloster, his five grandchildren, sister and brother-in-law, Ann (Kloster) Williams and Bob Williams.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Florence Kloster, and his youngest son, John Kloster. The burial will be held at a later date at Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead. Memorials should be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church or Concordia College, Moorhead, MN.
