V. Jean Beutler

V. Jean Beutler, 82, of Moorhead, MN, died Friday, April 26, 2013, in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN.

Jean was born on February 8, 1931 in Minneapolis, MN, to Tevis and Jeanette Tomperi Dudley. She grew up and attended school in Akin, MN. On November 17, 1951, Jean married Duane Beutler in Fargo, ND. They lived in rural Glyndon while they farmed, until moving into Glyndon in 1975. In 1990 they moved to Moorhead.

After her youngest child was in school, Jean went to Joseph’s School of Cosmetology. She worked at a beauty shop in Glyndon before opening her own shop in Moorhead. She also worked in the beauty shop in Eventide. Jean and Duane also owned 5 J’s Cafe in Dilworth, and later the cafe at American Crystal Sugar.

She was a Past President of the Women’s Auxiliary with the American Legion and VFW. Jean was also active with the Senior Companion Program and was a Foster Grandma at Nokomis. She enjoyed all types of crafts, especially quilting and knitting. Jean also bowled for 50 years.

She is survived by three sons, Duane “Jay”, Missoula, MT, Jerome “Jerry” Rich Bement, Glendale, AZ, and Jeff Julie, West Fargo, ND; one daughter, Jenny Mike Kjos, Hawley, MN; daughters-in-law, Chris Schmidtke, Dilworth, MN and Marilyn VanderWerff, Fargo, ND; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and every person Jean adopted into her life over the years.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Duane; son, John Nicholas III; granddaughter, Bobby Jo; and three brothers, Forrest, Jerome and Duane Dudley.

The family gives a special thanks to the staff at Eventide for their exceptional care and companionship to Jean.

Memorials are preferred to Nokomis and Dilworth Lutheran Church.

Memorial Service: Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Dilworth Lutheran Church, Dilworth, MN.

Memorial Gathering: Monday, April 29, 2013 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, ND.
