Verna Lynn Herker

Verna Lynn Herker was born in Watertown, SD on January 2, 1961 to Eldon and Ruby Herker. She was raised in Willow Lake, SD and graduated from Willow Lake High School in 1979. She married and had two children, Anna and Lucas. She divorced and moved up to Comstock, MN to further her higher education. Once there, she attended and graduated from MSU-Moorhead in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. She accepted a position at Cass County Electric in April of 1994 and worked there until her passing. Verna passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, December 26, 2019.

She was enthusiastically involved with various non-profit organizations and charities. Verna was proud to be a part of the Fargo Volksmarching group and traveled extensively in order to do 10K walks around the country and internationally. Verna was also very active with the local chapter of Soroptimist Women’s Organization, which works tirelessly to improve the lives of woman. She loved working with her hands completing house projects, creating beautiful quilts and various sewing projects, and she reveled in caring for her gardens both indoor and outdoor.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Eldon and Ruby Herker, and her brother, Jeff Herker. She is survived by her children, Anna Anderson (Cody) and Lucas Anderson, step-daughter Dawn Lohse, her sister Brenda Davis (Robert), her brother Brent Herker, many nieces, nephews and loving friends.

Visitation will be Monday, January 6, 2020, from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M., followed by the funeral service at 1:00 P.M., at Comstock Lutheran Church, Comstock, MN. Friends and family are invited to dress casually and wear purple in memory of Verna.
