Vernon Elroy Cederberg was born September 18, 1925 in Highland Grove Township, rural Hawley, MN to Victor and Ingeborg Hanson Cederberg. He attended rural school at Winnipeg Junction and graduated from Hawley High in 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Sherburne in the Pacific during WWII. He worked in Illinois after the war, he returned to Hawley, and began work for the Great Northern Railroad in 1948. He retired as an Engineer from the Burlington Northern Railroad in 1992. He married Elenor Woodward at the Woodward home on April 17, 1954; they moved to Grand Forks and then returned to Hawley to live on the Silver Lake. Elenor died April 2, 1995. He moved to Moorhead in 1998. He died at MeritCare Hospital on February 8, 2007 at the age of 81 and was surrounded by family. He was a member of Hegland Lutheran in Hawley, Christ the King Lutheran in Moorhead, the El Zagal Shrine, VFW and American Legion. He is survived by his children, Karen Rev. Mark Ostgarden, Valley City, ND, Keith Jennel, Hawley, MN, Mariann Bradley Cardwell, King George, VA, Janet, Seattle, WA; six grandchildren; Alison Ostgarden, Moorhead, David Cederberg, Virginia Beach, VA, Stacey Cederberg, Grand Forks, Joseph Ostgarden, Valley City, Alyssa Cardwell, King George, VA, and Nicholas Cardwell, King George, VA.; and one brother, Charles Dorothy, Hawley, MN. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and seven siblings.The family requests donations, in lieu of flowers, to be given to the Hegland Cemetery Fund or the Roger Maris Cancer Center in Fargo.
