Vernon E. Oberg, 78, Moorhead, MN, died on February 10, 2005, in his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, following a long battle with cancer.Vernon was born on October 4, 1926, in Fargo, ND, to Gudmund and Myrtle Grinde Oberg. He was raised near Kragnes and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Vernon married Jean Ecklund on June 22, 1951 and they made their home in the Moorhead-Kragnes area. He built homes and apartments in the F-M area for many years, and also erected Marley Cooling Towers for Therm-Air Sales Corp. of Fargo. He was a long-time member of North Buffalo Lutheran Church, serving as a deacon and on the building committee board. He was also a member of the Moorhead American Legion. He served on the original board of directors for the Red River Serenity Manor in Barnesville, MN.Vernon is survived by his wife, Jean, one daughter, Cheryl Ralph Krabbenhoft, Sabin, MN; two sons, Barry Lori, Bruce Vicki, both of rural Glyndon, MN; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; four brothers, James Jean, Dilworth, MN, Elmer Arlys, Moorhead, MN, Marlin Jeannette Valley City, ND, and Ernest Wilma Jean, Moorhead, MN; three sisters, Mildred Glen Kuehl, Glyndon, Joan Duane Erickson, Moorhead, Frances Don Domek, St. Louis, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John.
