Vernon J.A. Peterson, 87, Moorhead, MN, died on Sunday, February 25, 2007, in the Palliative Care Unit at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.Vernon was born on April 11, 1919, in Moorhead, MN, to Louis and August Langner Peterson. He grew up and attended school in Moorhead, graduating from Moorhead High School in 1937. He graduated from North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND, on December 18, 1942, and then attended Cadet Training at Yale. He had served as president of Sigma Phi Delta. Vernon married Helen Lee on July 6, 1943, in Spokane, WA. He served in Italy during WWII in the U.S. Army Air Corps from July 1943 until July of 1946, when he returned to Moorhead. Vernon worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone from May 13, 1946 until April 1, 1982, serving as project engineer. He and Helen had enjoyed many travels together. Vernon enjoyed woodworking, gardening, reading, dancing, card playing and being with family.He is survived by three daughters, Lynda Jack Caldis of Moorhead, MN, and children, Greg, Jamilyn, Brian, and Jason Forsberg, daughter, Susan Peter Holte of Fargo, ND, and children, Amber, Bret, Chantel, and Denette Holte, and daughter Rennitta Gene Okerlund of Fargo, ND; three brothers, Norman Peterson of Strum, WI, Leonard Maggie Peterson of Tacoma, WA, Wallace Cheryl Peterson of Willmar, MN; and thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen, and one brother, Carl.
