Vernon was born October 20, 1928 in Keene Township, Hitterdal, MN, to Lars Peter Jensen and Louise Victoria Eppler. He attended rural country school for eight years and then attended 9th grade in Glyndon, MN. He worked on local farms until entering the Army in November of 1950. He was with the occupation forces stationed in Germany and discharged in November of 1952. After the service he was employed as a diesel mechanic for Thompson Motor Service in Moorhead for 16 years and later was employed at Red Owl in Fargo. He retired in September of 1990. Vernon married Joan Cope of Hawley, MN, on June 5, 1954. Together they made their home in Moorhead.Vernon is survived by his wife, Joan of 54 years; daughter, Kathie Dwight Shanklin of Arvada, CO; sons, Scott Joy Jensen of Bradenton, FL, and Chris Jensen of Fargo, ND; two grandchildren, Avery Shanklin of Arvada, CO, and Sara Rea Jensen of Bradenton, FL. He also leaves his sisters, Lois Jensen of Glyndon, MN, Loris LeRoy Sandahl of Henning, MN; brothers, Clifford Adeline of Falcon, CO, Darrel Jean of Moorhead, MN, Harlen Gladys of Audubon, MN, and Dennis Arlene of Fargo, ND.Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Lester and Harvey.During his retirement he enjoyed fishing, hunting, carving and gardening, and also canning his special dill pickles every fall.Vernon was a lifetime member of the VFW and Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Moorhead.
