Victor Gilmer Smith, 92, of West Fargo, ND, formerly of Galesburg, ND went home to be with the Jesus on December 8, 2011, at Sheyenne Crossing Care Center, West Fargo, ND. Victor was born on April 22, 1919, to parents Tena Groven and Carl Smith. He was baptized May 25, 1919, at Elm River Lutheran Church, Galesburg, ND, and was confirmed there also. He attended grade school and high school in Galesburg, graduating in 1938. After farming five years, he was employed by the Galesburg Elevator. In 1945, he became co-owner of the Galesburg Implement Company, a John Deere Dealership. He served on the Galesburg City Council for many years and also served as mayor for four years. One of his accomplishments during that office was the Water and Sewer installation in the city in 1968. He held numerous offices at the Elm River Lutheran Church during his lifetime there. Victor retired in 1984 from the Galesburg Implement. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and playing cards with family and friends. Victor was known to be able to fix anything, large or small, from machinery to a toaster! He looked forward to visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as it gave him great joy. Victor will be remembered for his faith in Christ and friendship with his Lord. He married Dorothy Kuball on June 3, 1945, at Grace Lutheran Church in Grandin, ND. They met while Dorothy was teaching near Galesburg. Victor and Dorothy enjoyed their second home in Mesa, AZ. Victor and Dorothy moved to Sheyenne Crossing, West Fargo, ND, in 2007. Most mornings, Victor enjoyed riding around on his scooter with a smile and a twinkle in his eye as he greeted staff and friends at Sheyenne Crossing. Victor is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy; three children, Alan Jennie Smith, Audubon, MN, Terry LaVonne Smith, Centralia, WA, Danae Eric Delman, Alexandria, VA; eight grandchildren, Murray Donna Smith, Paula Winter, Christopher Smith, Aaron Marcy Smith, Joshua Smith, Zachary Delman, Samuel Delman, and Erika Delman. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Jordon, Tyler and Samantha Smith, Kayla and Christine Winter, Derbe and Chernet Smith; three sisters, Lillian Satrom, Fargo, ND, Ruth Faubion, San Antonio, TX, and Katherine Satrom, Everett, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jason Smith; brothers, Oscar and Gilmer; and sisters, Marion Tordsen, Cora Sundby, Alma Church, and Helen Olstad.
