Victor J Ertmann

Victor J. Ertmann, 77, Hawley, died Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at Sanford Health Palliative Care in Fargo.

Victor Julian Ertmann was born August 12, 1939, in Lome, ND, to Karl and Margaret Ring Ertmann. When he was 5, the family moved to Devil’s Lake, ND where he graduated from high school in 1959. He attended junior college at Devil’s Lake, obtained his teaching degree from Mayville State University and completed graduate courses at NDSU.

Vic married Karen Strand on June 14, 1964, in Lawton, ND. After their marriage they lived in Edmore, ND and moved to Kindred, ND in 1970. Together they had two daughters, Michelle and Lisa. Over the years, Vic taught school at Carpio, ND and Edmore, ND and he was principal at Kindred High School. He was also manager of Cass Rural Water and Richland Rural Water for many years. In 1994 the family moved to Hawley where Vic and Karen owned and operated T’s Pizza and Ice Cream for 6 years. From 2000 to 2012 Vic enjoyed his job as a greeter at the Dilworth Walmart.

A devoted family man, Vic never missed attending school sports and activities for his children and grandchildren. Vic and Karen spent countless hours travelling to be at such activities, and the kids were always so proud that they could be there. Vic was also a dedicated volunteer and enjoyed spending time at REACH in Hawley and the Befriender’s Ministry at Hawley Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Karen, of Hawley, his daughters, Michelle Larson, of Savage, MN, Lisa Paul Wixo, of Wahpeton, ND; his brother, Gary Trudy Ertmann, of Devils Lake; his brother-in-law, Howard, Gen Strand; his sister-in-law, Karla Ertmann; his grandchildren, Benjamin and Reid Larson and Brandon and Brooke Wixo, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Charles Ertmann, his sister, Marjorie Jerry Wallander; his brother, David Ertmann, and in-laws Shabel and Phyllis Freije.
