Victor L. ’Vic’ Schramm Sr.

March 27, 1917 — March 15, 2010

Vic was born on March 27, 1917 on the family farm south of Glyndon, Minnesota to Frank G. and Ida Scheider Schramm. He had two older brothers, Donald and Chester. When Victor was in first grade at the Glyndon School, his parents had to sell their farm because of crop failures, and move to town Glyndon. Victor's father built a large shop for his construction business adjacent to the home they purchased. Victor grew up in the business with his father, who built many farm barns and homes in the area and several homes in the Moorhead Teachers College now MSUM area. He met Eunice Andrews soon to be Eunice Schramm at Glyndon High School where he graduated in 1934. He attended Dakota Business College in Fargo for 2 years and Dunwoody Technical Institute in Minneapolis for 2 years. He moved to Moorhead with his parents in 1939 where he continued working in construction with his father. Vic and Eunice were married June 9, 1940 in the home Vic built for his young bride. Victor continued working in construction with his father, forming the Schramm Construction Company. During World War II, he worked in defense construction and helped his cousin, Harold on the Tobolt Farm rural Dilworth, MN.Vic was owner and operator of Schramm Construction until his retirement in 1981. Well-known in the Fargo-Moorhead area for his fine homes, Vic planned and built each home individually. Victor was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Moorhead where he served on the Board of Trustees and the Building Committee. He was also very involved in the youth ministry activities of First Congregational with his family. He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Moorhead. Before retiring he built a beautiful house on the Red River, where Vic and Eunice lived until recently. They traveled to Florida for 6 months each winter, enabling them to enjoy their grandchildren.Vic and Eunice loved traveling in their R.V. for 20 years after his retirement. They spent much time with their family, traveling 8 times to Germany to visit daughter, Barbara and to Colorado and Florida to visit son, Vic Jr. and daughter, Donna. Vic loved his family more than anything in his life. He spent many happy days fishing and skiing water and snow and especially enjoyed the summers with his family at their Floyd Lake cottage.Preceding Victor in death are his parents, Frank and Ida, and his brothers, Chester and Donald.Vic is survived by his wife, Eunice, his children, Victor L. Schramm Jr., Donna Ryder and Barbara Schramm, and his grandchildren, Tom Ryder, Rebecca Dixon, Heidi Willard, Beth Podgorny, and Hale Schramm, and his six great-grandchildren.
