Vincent A. Peterson

Vincent Arvid Peterson, 80, of Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away on Monday, October 22, 2018 at Ecumen Detroit Lakes under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.  Vincent was born in Moorhead, MN on June 20, 1938 to Arvid and Margaret (Riedel) Peterson.  He grew up on the family farm in Hawley, MN.  After Vincent graduated from Hawley High School in 1955, he enlisted in the North Dakota Army National Guard until 1964.  He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant in Headquarters Company 188^th Engineer Group (Combat).  Vincent farmed and spent seven years on the road as a semi-truck owner. He then started a career as a home builder where he built 35 homes plus garages and additions, and completed many remodeling jobs.

Vincent married Loureigne Bodin in July 1959, they had two children together.  Vincent married Darcy Zitzow on January 9, 1999 at Hawley Lutheran Church in Hawley, MN.

Vincent had a deep faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus and was an ardent student of The Word of God. He was an active member of Solem Lutheran Church in Hawley, MN where he enjoyed singing in the church choir for over 15 years and serving on the church council. He enjoyed driving and restoring tractors, dancing, making wooden toys, spending time with his dogs, and attending lutefisk suppers.

Vincent is survived by his wife, Darcy; son, Chad (Kari) Peterson of Glyndon, MN; son, Rod (Amanda) Peterson of Ladera Ranch, CA; step-son, Jeff (Wendy) Zitzow of Vergas, MN; step-son, Greg (Kelsey) Zitzow of Vergas, MN; step-son, Kevin Zitzow of Vergas, MN; step-son, Nic (Katie) Zitzow of Vergas, MN; eight grandchildren, Cole and Cade Sogge, Chase and Katie Peterson, Oliver Peterson, Derek Zitzow, Kenna Johnson and Liam Zitzow; sister, Norma Olson of Hawley, MN; niece, Tiffany (Eric) Brown and their children, Hadley, Lainey and Lilly; and nephew, Ross Olson of Hawley, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother in law Virgil Olson.

A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., with prayer service at 7:00 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home, Hawley, MN. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at 10:00 a.m., in Solem Lutheran Church, 3767 280th Street South, Hawley, MN.
