Violet E. Mcconnell

Violet E. McConnell Nick at the age of 92 passed peacefully on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Eventide Nursing Home in Moorhead, MN. The funeral will be held in the Chapel at First Lutheran Church in Fargo on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 1:00 PM. Pastor Bill Ahlfeldt will be officiating. Immediately prior to the service there will be a one 1 hour visitation. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in South Fargo.Vi also known as Liz, daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a very special friend was born Violet Elizabeth Nick on July 1, 1920 in Dilworth, MN to Robert and Bethsey Wold Nick, the youngest of five 5 children. In Dilworth, Vi grew from a young child into a beautiful young lady. She graduated from Dilworth High School in 1938. Violet continued her family tradition and attended Concordia College. After college, Vi met her husband, Herman "Mac" McConnell, at the Dilworth roller rink. The young couple fell in love and was married June 10, 1942. The newlyweds decided to create their home in Fargo, ND. Vi and Mac were blessed with three 3 children; two 2 sons and a daughter. They shared fifty four 54 wonderful years together and gave themselves freely to their family, church and community. Vi was a long time member of First Lutheran Church in Fargo and loved helping others. She was a living example of Christ's commandment to love one another. The kindness and sense of humor Vi possessed brought smiles to all who knew her. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Vi loved helping people and was always willing to step up do what needed to be done. She spent countless hours 5,000 + assisting patients and lifting their spirits with a simple conversation during the forty seven 47 years she volunteered at the Veteran's Administration "VA" Hospital in Fargo. She was also very active in the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Vi's greatest enjoyment was taking care of her family and spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren.She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and all of the people whose lives she touched. She is survived by her three 3 children: Robert Jean McConnell of Charlotte, NC; Gordon Karen McConnell of Humble, TX; and Susan Jeff Dick of Lisbon, ND; six 6 grandchildren: Robert McConnell Jr. of Houston, TX; Brenda McConnell and Cheryl McConnell of Charlotte, NC; Kristi Steven Gerhardt of Dallas, TX; Jason Amy McConnell of Houston, TX; Trista Dick of Fargo, ND; and three 3 great-grandchildren: Terrence McConnell of Charlotte, NC; Katelyn and Zachary Gerhardt of Dallas, TX as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Vi was preceded in death by her husband Mac; her parents Robert and Bethsey; her three 3 older brothers, William, Clifford and Robert Jr. as well as her older sister, Susan.
