Waylon was born July 1, 1970 at Ada, Minnesota to Maynard "Dusty" and Eileen Bjerke Karsten. He grew up and attended school in Felton through 6th grade, then attended school in Ulen, graduating from Ulen High School in 1988. He graduated from Moorhead State University in 1993 with degrees in math and economics. Waylon was married to Diane Cumber on June 27, 1992, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Park Rapids, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with three children, Justin, Alyssa and McKenna. Following their marriage, they lived in Moorhead, and then Watertown, S.D. for two years. In 1996, they moved to Hawley, MN. In the spring of 2006 Waylon started ECSI Environmental Control Systems, INC. in a spare bedroom in his home. He later moved his business to Pelican Rapids, MN, where it is currently operating. Waylon fulfilled a life dream of being a successful entrepreneur. Waylon loved the outdoors including hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling and snowmobiling. He enjoyed passing the love of the outdoors on to his children, starting them at an early age. He was a prideful father, his children meant everything to him. He will be sorely missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Diane, Lake Park, MN; one son, Justin Karsten, Lake Park, MN; two daughters, Alyssa and McKenna Karsten, Lake Park, MN; his parents, Maynard "Dusty" & Eileen Karsten, Ulen, MN; grandmother, Olga Bjerke, Ulen, MN; and one sister, Melissa Jeremy Bimberg Karsten, Frazee, MN.
