Waylon Elmer Fox “Picks Up The Feather”, Sr., 42, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2020, in Traverse Care Center, Wheaton, MN.
Waylon was born on August 17, 1978, to Ferlon, Sr. and Beth Ann (Graffis) Fox in Fargo, ND, where he grew up. In 1985, he moved to Moorhead, MN, where he attended St. Joseph’s Elementary and Moorhead Senior High. After high school, he dove deep within his Native American culture and began singing and dancing for local Pow Wow’s. He quickly learned the Dakota language of his people and began singing in his own language. He became well known for his voice that he teamed up with Mick Kjar and Red Nation to record a CD. He joined the Pow Wow Circle where he sang and danced as a well renowned Grassdancer and a Spiritual Sundancer.
Waylon was hired to work as a cultural organizer for Wahpeton Indian Schools where he taught Native American Culture, Signing, and Dancing, taking part in local demonstrations. He moved back to Moorhead, MN, where he met Linda Bearhart and together, they had a son, Waylon, Jr. He began his work at schools and cultural centers where he took part in cultural traditions.
Waylon was always happy, friendly, and easy going and made friends everywhere he went.
A private family service will be held at Wright Funeral Home on Monday, January 11, 2021. A livestream of the service will be available on Waylon’s webpage at www.wrightfuneral.com at 2:00 P.M where a guestbook and video tribute may also be found. Visitation will be from noon to 2:00 P.M. on Monday. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, North, Fargo, ND.
