Wayne E. Drewes

Wayne E. Drewes, 71, of rural Hawley/Hitterdal, MN, passed away peacefully at his home after a brave battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, January 13, 2016.

Wayne Edwin Drewes was born December 19, 1944, in Morris, MN, to Otto and Martha Mumm Drewes. After graduating from Alberta High School he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving his country from 1963 to 1967. He then attended Moorhead State University for his CPA and worked for Peat Mitchell in Minneapolis, MN for 2 years as a CPA.

He married Mary Hegle and they had two children together, Jennifer and Matthew. In 1981, Wayne married Linda Luneburg, and they made their home in rural Hawley/Hitterdal. Together they had three children, John, Katie and Alan. Wayne worked in Fargo as a CPA for Drewes and Horab and he was also a Bankruptcy Trustee for 31 years.

Wayne was a dedicated member of the Hitterdal Lions, the Fargo Am-Vets, and he served on the Ulen-Hitterdal School Board from 1988 to 1998 and the Northwest Minnesota Synod from 2005 to 2013. He was an active member and served on the church council at Salem Lutheran Church in Hitterdal since 1981.

Wayne enjoyed attending the many activities of his children, including music and sports. He also loved hunting, fishing, playing cards, and vegetable gardening.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Linda Lin; his children, Jennifer Drewes, Moorhead, Matthew Julie Drewes, Eden Prairie, MN, John Ashley Drewes, Frazee, MN, Katie Andrew Miller, Minneapolis, MN, and Alan Drewes, Moorhead; six grandchildren, Andrew, August, Ariyan, Aden, Ella and Eli; and his siblings, Dolores Wayne Delp, David Fran Drewes, and Mary Otto.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Keith.
