Wilbert Lester Seydel, the second of Frederick and Louise Schneider Seydel's 12 children, was born October 27, 1921 on his parent's farm near the village of Dale in rural Becker Country, MN. He was the oldest boy. After graduating from rural school District 41 in June 22, 1936, Wilbert continued living and farming on the Seydel homestead, raising wheat, barley, oats, soybeans, corn, cattle and hogs as well as maintaining an orchard and several gardens. In the late 1940's Wilbert played on the Lake Park Baseball Team, and remained a fan of the Minnesota Twins. Wilbert was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Audubon, where he was baptized and confirmed and served on the church council. Wilbert was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, and fishing near the Seydel farm, as well as annual deer hunting reunions with relatives in northern Minnesota, near Badger. He joined his brothers and sisters on a trip to Alaska in 1992. Wilbert was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Leona Koenig Sletmoen, Sylvia Nearhoof, Luella Lindstrom, Elline Noben and brothers Junior and Elroy. Wilbert is survived by Grant Seydel, Hitterdal, MN, who lives on the Seydel homestead, Archie Seydel, Detroit Lakes, MN, Eugene Sandy Seydel, Willmar, MN; sisters Esther Walter Atkinson, Bemidji, MN and Lyla Paul Olson, Lake Park, MN; and 23 nieces and nephews.
