William “Bill” Arthur Henning

William “Bill” Henning, 63, of Hawley, MN, passed away suddenly at his home on May 13th, 2021. Bill was born on February 21, 1958, in Hillsboro, ND, the last of four children to Lyall and Ione Henning.

Bill was a proud graduate of the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND, and a member of the Beta Zeta Chapter of Sigma Chi fraternity. He struggled accepting the Fighting Hawks team name as his school would always be the home of the Fighting Sioux for him.

Bill was involved in Hawley Boy Scouts from Tiger Cubs to Eagle Scouts and instilled the love of the outdoors; Dutch oven cooking, kayaking, hiking, and photography to many boys including his own.

He was a dedicated employee for several insurance companies throughout his 41 years as a claims adjustor. He enjoyed the relationships he formed with many city employees in his current employment with W R Berkley Corp/League of MN Cities.

He enjoyed motorcycle riding the Minnesota country roads with his sons and friends and had been looking forward to doing more extensive traveling and touring throughout the United States in retirement that sadly was not obtained.

Bill is survived by his wife, Beverly of nearly 37 years; his three children, Kate (Rylee) Gefroh and Matt (Emily) Henning of Fargo, ND, and David Henning, currently of Central City, KY. He was thrilled when blessed with two grandchildren born two weeks apart last year. Bill is also survived by his sisters, Toni (Rob) Gunderson, St. Joseph, MO, Sharon (Rich) Jurgens, Grand Forks, ND, and Laurel (Aarne) Read, Shannock, RI, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Also left to mourn his loss are Phil, Sierra, and Morgan; four-legged furry office mates and constant companions. Morgan, a large tuxedo black cat, was often on his desk and the two dogs directly below him.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Circle of Friends Humane Society of Grand Forks, ND, and Northern Lights Council Boy Scouts of America, Fargo, ND, or a charity of your choice.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., followed by the prayer service and a time of sharing at 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at Wright Funeral Home, HWY 10, Hawley, MN. Visitation will continue from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M., followed by the memorial service at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, May 20, 2021, at Hawley Lutheran Church, 510 8th St., Hawley, MN.
