William “Bill” Burton Johnson, 73, of Moorhead, MN, ended his journey on earth on Saturday, February 22, 2020, in Sanford on Broadway, Fargo, ND.
Bill was born on November 27, 1946, to Burton and Lois (Clausen) Johnson in Minneapolis, MN. He grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from South West High School, Minneapolis, MN. In high school, he was a great all-around athlete and played in many different sports such as Football, Baseball, Basketball, and Hockey. He attended the University of Minnesota to study Education and graduated with an Associate of Arts Degree.
After graduation, he worked for Control Data Corporation in Minneapolis until receiving his draft notice and enlisting in the Navy in 1967. He worked in the Navy as an Electronics Technician and was first stationed in Greece where he met the love of his life, Anne Marks. They were united in marriage on June 2, 1973, in Harefield, Middlesex, England. They were stationed in Spain, Thurso Scotland, Charleston South Carolina, Holy Lock Scotland, and finally as a recruiter in Fargo, ND, where he ended his military career in 1989. In twenty-two and a half years of military service for the Navy, Bill spent only eighteen days at sea.
Bill began his twenty-year career at the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier in Fargo, ND, where he would become treasured by the residents along his route. He retired in 2010 in Moorhead, MN, where he had lived ever since. For the last ten years, Bill and Anne made the most of the time they had together and traveled extensively. Bill was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather, and a great example of how to be a success in each of these roles. He especially enjoyed attending all his grandchildren’s activities and sporting events.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Anne; children, Lisa (Jake) Bendall and Fiona (Troy) Brendemuhl; grandchildren, Elisabeth, Allisan, and Mason Bendall, Jenna, Matthew, Keegan, and Keira Brendemuhl; sisters, Nancy (Jim) Burkhart and Julie (Steve) Novotny; and many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Burt and Lois; and brother, Craig.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 P.M., followed by a Celebration of Bill’s Life at 7:00 P.M., on Thursday, March 5, 2020, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. Burial will be at Fargo National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Sanford Hospice House.
