When he was discharged, they moved the family to Fargo for a short time before settling in Hawley. Bill worked at American Crystal Sugar where he later became Union President for a term. He made many long and lasting friendships before he took early retirement due to his health. Family was very important to Bill, he was known as Pa to all the grandkids. Over the years he enjoyed his hobby farm of horses, cows, chickens and ducks. He was always puttering and making improvements on his property. He also enjoyed the outdoors, snowmobiling and after retirement took on woodworking with his scroll saw. He will be greatly missed.
