William Funk

William “Bill” Funk, 74, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND. Bill was born July 7, 1949, to Adam and Anna (Maershbecker) Funk. He grew up on the family farm near Hebron, ND, and graduated from Hebron High School. Bill continued his education at Assumption College in Richardton, ND. Bill married Cindy Staiger on January 28, 1972 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Richardton. Together they made their home in Bismarck/Mandan before settling in the Fargo/Moorhead area. Bill enjoyed working in steel building construction. He was a hard worker and took pride in many of the buildings they constructed over his 40+ years. He retired in 2018. Some of his favorite activities included reading and classical music. His greatest joy, however, was the time spent attending his sons’ and his grandchildren’s soccer games and activities. He will be dearly missed.

Bill is survived by his wife, Cindy; son, Shamus (Christina) Funk; daughter-in-law, Laura Funk; 7 grandchildren, Aaron, Baela, Elliot, Charles, Abraham, Agnes and Lennon; also survived by sisters, Mary Ann (Clem) Benoit, Janice Cole and Nancy (Larry) Haugen.

He was preceded in death by his son, Tobis “Toby” Funk; parents, Adam and Anna; and his brothers, Nick and Jim Funk.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 29, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., followed by the memorial service at 11:00 a.m., at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
