Bill was born October 29, 1928 in Cromwell Township, rural Hawley, Minnesota to Earl and Maude Comstock Day. He was baptized and confirmed at Hawley Lutheran Church. His family moved to Dale, Minnesota where he attended school and farmed with his father. He enlisted in the Air Force and served for 3 1/2 years. He returned home to help his father on the farm. Bill married Harriet Lamon on November 16, 1963 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Hawley, Minnesota, and they made their home in Hawley. He joined the Army National Guard and served for many years. He worked various jobs in the Fargo/Moorhead area. Bill worked twenty five years for the Minnesota State Highway Department, first on the bridge crew and later for the maintenance department. He retired from the State in 1994. Bill was a Boy Scout leader for many years, and was also an elder and treasurer for Our Savior's Lutheran Church. His biggest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his children and camping with his family. Bill loved to play cards, spend time in his flower gardens and making canes out of Diamond Willow. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald; and sisters, Maxine Chalfant and Lucille Wenthin. God bless the memory of Bill. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Harriet of Hawley, MN; two sons, Keith Janet of Dassel, MN, and Brian of Glyndon, MN; one daughter, Stephanie Pat Fuchs of Glyndon, MN; four grandchildren, Ethan and Alysia Fuchs, and Emma and Alex Day.
