Yvonne G. Harmon

October 14, 1916 — May 24, 2007

Yvonne was born on October 14, 1916 in Kansas City, MO to Bertha and Alva Gaylord. After completing high school in Lincoln, NE, Yvonne attended Nebraska Wesleyan University for two years and continued her undergraduate studies at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln graduating with a degree in Education. Yvonne continued her education at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, earning her Master's degree in Business Administration. All through school, Yvonne was very active in musical activities including university symphony orchestras, concert bands, and brass ensembles. She participated in S.A.I. and several chapters of P.E.O holding many offices in each organization. While at the University of NE, Yvonne met Harold D. Harmon better known as HD or "Doc" and they were united in marriage on June 6, 1939. Following his educational and occupational pursuits, HD and Yvonne lived in several cities around the country: Tekamah, NE; Ann Arbor, MI; Lincoln, NE; Coeur d'Alene, ID; San Francisco, CA; Moorhead, MN; Northbrook, IL. During these years, Yvonne was employed as a high school principal and teacher in Inavale, NE and used her exceptional abilities as a secretary at the universities, in real estate and law offices. She later began teaching studio and private music lessons at home, allowing her to devote herself to raising her three children. Yvonne & HD were accomplished musicians and continued playing after retiring to Fargo in 1984. Both were members of the Mel Eidsmoe Dance Band performing in Fargo during the summer and as snowbirds in Mesa, AZ during the winter months. Yvonne and HD enjoyed traveling…Hawaii, Mexico, Norway, and Alaska but they especially loved visiting their daughters living down south.Yvonne and her family treasured their times camping and being at their lake cabin in Minnesota. She loved entertaining and socializing…musical performances being one of her favorite pastimes. Yvonne's beautiful smile and her generous thoughtful ways will be fondly remembered by many, and she will be dearly missed.Yvonne is survived by her children: Karen Hollimon, Atlanta, GA; Wynne Gus Maily, Columbia, MS; Jeff Rhonda Harmon, West Fargo, ND; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, HD, Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Sherwood. The family would like to give special thanks to the caregivers of the Evergreens of Fargo for providing a beautiful, caring and safe environment, to Hospice for all of the wonderful services they provide, and to Comfort Keepers for their companionship and assistance. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Dr. H.D. and Yvonne Harmon Memorial Music Scholarship at Minnesota State University Moorhead, to encourage others to follow their musical pursuits.
