Douglas L. Lau, 66, of Pelican Rapids, formerly of Moorhead, MN, died on Thursday, December 3, 2020, at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND. Doug was born August 30, 1954, in Fargo, ND, to Lyle and Elizabeth (Bassett) Lau. He grew up in Fargo and graduated from Fargo South High School. In his youth, Doug excelled in sports and was able to continue playing hockey in college at St. Cloud State University. Doug married his wife, Connie, on July 14, 1984, and loved her as only he could. They were the definition of “opposites attract” and were the perfect complement for one another. Together they created a wonderful balance and a loving relationship. Doug began his career at Coca-Cola where he enjoyed the next 45 years. He took pride in mentoring many of his coworkers and along the way made many dear friends. Doug loved to fish, especially with his sons. He was lovingly nicknamed “King of the Northerns” by his sons, and “Doug from Toad Lake” by the northern pike who never forgot him and loved to bite his lures.
He enjoyed living at the lake, often admiring the view while drinking a Miller Lite from his front porch. He loved his annual winter retreats to Mexico with Connie where they inevitably made new friends each time from all across the world. He also loved watching his grandchildren grow and play, pushing them on the tree swing and giving them rides on the golf cart.
Doug was admired as a person with integrity, who was fair, understanding, humble and kind, gentle, patient, selfless, hard-working, and loving. Through the years, he stayed active in the community, serving in Lions Clubs, and shared his passion for sports through coaching. He always had an “ATTA BOY” for his players. He was a supporter and loved the kids he coached. Doug will be sorely missed by all the lives he’s touched throughout the years.
Doug is survived by his wife, Connie; sons, Matthew (Sara) Lau and their children, Wyatt, Sophia and Maverick, and Christopher (Victoria) Lau and their children, Nicholas, Theodore, and Josette Lau; siblings, Donald (Renae), Sharon McKay, Ann (Lloyd) Manley, Mike (Linda), Tom (Leila); sister-in-law, Ruth Lau; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Lyle Jr. “Bud”, Jeanette, Richard “Dick”, and Bob.
