Peter Miller Allen Astrup

Peter Astrup, 92, Moorhead, MN, died on Sunday, October 2, 2016 in the Ecumen Evergreens of Moorhead, MN.
Peter Miller Allen Astrup, Jr. was born on May 25, 1924 in Grenora, ND, to Peter and Emma Halverson Astrup, Sr. He grew up and attended school at Williston, ND, and moved to rural Dilworth, MN in 1937 graduating from Dilworth High School in 1942.
He farmed with his father until 1948 when he took over, raising sugar beets and small grains until he retired in 1976. Peter was an avid pilot who got his pilot’s license in 1963. He owned and flew a variety of small planes until he retired his wings in 1986.
Pete married Carol Crowder on April 27, 1952 at Moorhead, MN. They lived on the farm until retiring in 1977, when they built a home on Pelican Lake, near Pelican Rapids, MN, and in 1989 they moved to Moorhead where they have lived since. They spent winters in Arizona for many years.
Pete was a charter member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Moorhead, and also belonged to the Rotary Clubs in Moorhead and Pelican Rapids, MN, as well as C-400.
He was a talented artist who worked in wood and metal, creating many works of art for family and friends.
Peter is survived by his wife, Carol, Moorhead, MN; sons Michael Pamela, Dilworth, MN, Peter III Nancy, Bozeman, MT; daughters Diane Robert Scalese, Big Sandy, MT, and Sandra Doug Ustick, Houston, TX; ten grandchildren, Christopher, Stephen, Jennifer, Lauren and Rachel Astrup, Thomas “T.J.” Elle and Daniel “Buck” Scalese, Katherine, Jessica, and Carolina Ustick; great-grandchildren Sicily and Mesa Scalese, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Justin, Edwin and Herbert; sisters-in-law Beatrice Astrup, Bea Astrup, Patricia Crowder; brothers-in-law Donald Gulsvig and Thomas Crowder.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Visitation: Friday, October 7, 2016, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
Funeral: Saturday, October 8, 2016, at 10:30 A.M. in Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
